Not So Great
DESCRIPTION: The last 2 times I got takeout food from this restaurant, the meat was raw inside. Awful. I had to throw it away. I thought maybe the first time was just bad luck but someone definitely does not know how to cook.

Watch out for the Wife
DESCRIPTION: Never in my life have I eaten in a restaurant were the owner's wife was so nasty and just downright mean. She was in our faces at every turn and made us feel 100% uncomfortable. I will never go back there because of her. Review, take your money and go someplace else. The food was great.

Excellent Food, Awful Hostess
DESCRIPTION: The food, service, wine, environment were outstanding and can compete anywhere, but the woman who owns the place, along with her chef husband was rude, nasty and obnoxious. She was downright mean! I am sorry, but I will not go back.

We Loved It
DESCRIPTION: When my husband and I temporarily lived in Newfane, we visited this inn several times and always found the owners to be outstanding hosts. Miss Gundy, the co-owner, was very gracious and kind to us, every time. The mouthwatering food and exceptional ambiance were so wonderfully special to temporary visitors from Arkansas. We wanted to experience New England and this inn is one of our best memories. We will definitely go back.

Scary Wife
DESCRIPTION: Someone needs to tell the owner and chef that his wife is killing his business. She is something else, I had been eating there every night for over a week. I was in town on business and asked to use the phone in the lobby as I had left my cell in my room. The wife snapped and said there was a phone across the street. Here I am dropping hundreds eating there and she would not let me even use the phone for one local call. Food was good, but the wife is nasty. Pack her up in a bag and mail her back to the old country. I'm rating this a poor place to eat because of her.

RJ's Is the Hungry Man's Sports Bar
DESCRIPTION: When I think of RJ's, I think of one thing: wings. If you catch them at the right time, RJ's has what might just be the best hot wings in town, and between 5 and 9 PM you can get them for 15 cents apiece (and for free on the weekend). However, RJ's has a lot more to offer the hungry diner than just chicken wings. They have a quite large selection of burgers and chicken sandwiches on the menu, as well as salads and veggie burgers. Everything I've eaten at RJ's has been tasty, no-muss-no-fuss (no complaints) bar fare. The interior of RJ's is very spacious and bar-like; it is much larger than it looks from the outside. Being a sports bar, there are TVs visible from just about every seat. The decor is that of sports teams and alcohol advertisements set against a backdrop of glossy wooden barstools. RJ's strongest positive factor is the price of its food. Every day there are five or six regular menu items that they put on special for $4. Normally, just about everything rings up at around $6. But if you're not particular, you can order one of the "specials" every outing, and fill your belly for $4 (leaving more money for beer, naturally). The quality of the food varies slightly. I will say this: their salads have always been very fresh; no complaints there. Their sandwiches and burgers seem to come on various types of bread: an English muffin one day, a Kaiser roll the next. I've found it's best to ask about the bread in advance, just to be sure. The wings are the biggest question mark when it comes to quality. During the week when it is less busy, you typically get hot, freshly cooked wings. But on the "free wing" days, (ie. Friday and Saturday,) quality (not to mention temperature - and service) drops off sharply. The biggest problem with RJ's is the absolute mob of bar-goers that it attracts due to its prominent location, vast interior, and great value. It is nearly impossible to get a seat here after 5:30 PM, Thursday through Saturday--and with all the smoking, shouting, and elbow-to-elbow table vulturing taking place, it's not a pleasant experience even when you DO get there early enough to snag a seat. With crowds that large, service crawls to a near-halt. My recommendation: stay away on the weekends. The perfect time to hit RJ's is on a Tuesday or Wednesday, when there are some great drink specials ($2 domestic pints) and the chicken wings are made-to-order, so you know they'll be hot and fresh.

Some Like It Hot!
DESCRIPTION: My first restaurant experience was Five Spice when I first moved to Burlington. I fell in love with it the second I walked in. It's just so cozy: the tables close together, lights around the bar, jazz softly playing in the background... Service was fantastic; the staff really knows about food, spices and wine. 1/3 of the menu is deliciously vegetarian, but it's all made to order-so you can get almost everything the way you want it. The tom yum soup is to die for. Even all of the dipping sauces are made on site. Prices are reasonable, portions are perfect. It's relaxed and right in the center of downtown. Just promise me you'll go! Tell Ginger and Jerry I say hello!

Poor Service - Not Worth the Trip
DESCRIPTION: My party was rudely greeted on the stairs leading to the dining room. We sat for over 20 minutes before anyone would wait on us. As a result, I had to ask (beg) for someone to wait on us to at least order a cocktail. The waiter did not offer any information regarding the menu, food etc and was not helpful at all. When I confronted the waiter about the lack of service, I was appalled at the pretentious attitude and lack of respect he offered to myself and my family. The waiter simply did not or want to provide good service and felt the need to always have an excuse, ignoring my wishes. What ever happened to the "Customer is always right?" Obviously, this establishment has at least 1 inadequate poor waiter on staff that needs desparately to take a class on customer service and what happens when you don't provide it.

DESCRIPTION: Suggested by friends, we visited Five Spice and had a terrific time. Great food, casual atmosphere, attentive and knowledgable staff. I don't like hot food, so I chose milder dishes, but my friends were blown away by many dishes. I loved the Indonesian mock duck--though I'm not a vegetarian. I ate a wing -- and it was HOT, but I liked it. Desserts -- fabulous. Can't wait to go back!

Fond Memory
DESCRIPTION: I found out about Five Spice from a Welcome Center pamphlet, and on my way back from Canada, I had to stop in. The place is really cozy, very chic. The service was great, lotta smiley people. I ordered a dish called Evil Jungle Prince...and to this day, it's still one of my best culinary experiences. I'll drive all the way up there from PA to do it again.

Good Meals
DESCRIPTION: Excellent NY Style pizza. Meat lasagna to die for. A daily variety of pizza by the slice. Drinks and such are available. A little greasier than I prefer, and the inside could use a remodeling; however, the food is very good. The service varies and can leave something to be desired.

Good Food, SLOW Service!!!
DESCRIPTION: Overall the food was quite good and I was quite impressed with that part of my dining experience. However the service was poor. There was only 1 person waiting the entire restaurant!!! Forget about asking for a drink refill or getting anything extra. We only saw the waiter a total of three times. To take our order, bring the food and bring our bill; that was it. Not that it was his fault. They just needed more people waiting tables. Mabe if I had been there on another day...

Message for the Barmaid, Ahem, I Mean Barhag
DESCRIPTION: Spent a lovely day shopping in Woodstock, but the memory I came away with from the town will be the bar experience at Bentley's on 12/28/03. Upon approaching the empty bar to sit and enjoy a beer, the barhag looks at my party of three and yells out "OH NO, you guys CAN'T sit HERE, you HAVE to be of age!" Now I know I am 24 years old and I know at most bars, common ettiquette is to ID before being served...but for some reason, this lady makes it a point not to even let us sit. I responded to her by saying, "Well if we show you some ID, then can we sit?" Ok, our credentials pass but she then proceeds to ignore the three of us and another bartender takes our drink orders. I have no idea what this lady had against us. Yeah, I may look 18 but at least let us prove it before yelling at your customers and denying them service. Thanks for the pleasant experience, Bentley's!
