Needs a Lot of Help

Service needs dramatic improvements
DESCRIPTION: I visit the Cafe several times a year for lunch and dinner. The food has always been the best...in fact, I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there. However, the service could be improved upon. I completely agree with another's comment about the female manager. She is cold and often rude. I'm not happy about the fact that you cannot have separate checks presented to you and have to have separate totals given at the cash register. This is time consuming for working folks who need to return back to their jobs in a timely manner. Most troublesome, however, is that their gift certificates have an expiration date of six months. Staff becomes very rude about honoring them past the expiration date and will actually refuse them. I used to receive several gift certificates to the Cafe from clients for Christmas gifts, etc. but have actually asked them to stop due to this ridiculous policy.

Management Is Out of Control!
DESCRIPTION: I was banned from the bar for calling the bartender over (her husband) to break up a potential scuffle. Unforunately for us we didn't know that the troublemakers were undercover cops. Our bottom line is that management didn't even want to hear our side of the story and we were thrown out, the cops were called and the undercover cop (M.K.) stood outside flashing his badge in front of me, while letting a girl take the rap for his dirt. Billy C should really take a closer look at "management out of control" and select someone who is more professional and customer service oriented, instead of relying on a manager that is on a power trip. Does Billy C still own the bar, or does Ann Durkin? We spoke with Ann Durkin today and requested a refund for the second round of drinks that we did not have a chance to drink, and we were told by her that there would be no refund! This was a very fightening and upsetting experience for me and I would fear visiting any establishment that does not protect their quality customers. The managment operating this establishment is corrupt and obviously thinks that they can do what ever they want. A word of advice to the local police is not to take sides and investigate any situation in a professional manner to avoid potential legal issues.

Don't miss it OH SO WONDERFUL
DESCRIPTION: Went there just for the crab on Monday true the crab was wonderful 19.95 all you can eat either Dungeness or Alaskan King came with a salad and vegetable. YUMMMMM My dining companion had the Scrod over rice pilaf....and we had his remaining this evening. Wonderful warm rolls extensive bar with beers on tap that you rarely see on the East Coast very classy without being stuffy. The night we were there an employee gave some regulars some fresh tomatoes as they had just received their shipment and wanted to share the wealth :) Nice touch. There is a player piano when the regular pianist Johnathan is not there. Very attentive wait staff without being intrusive. Quaint private rooms for catering/meetings. I have just printed the menu off for our next trip there this Friday :) Hope to make it for all you can eat crab again next Monday. Worth the trip from Philadelphia and even better if you are in the West Chester area not a far trip at all :)

We've Had Many Very Good Dinners There
DESCRIPTION: Our club meets there and has dinner and everyone has enjoyed their meals tremendously. We return every month. The Shrimp Lejon is my personal favorite and unique to the Red Rose. I've never seen it on any other local menu. We've had very good Filet Mignon and Salmon also. The prices are very reasonable and the service and atmosphere are top.

What Fond Memories
DESCRIPTION: I was a non-traditional student while attending Lincoln University. (When I retired from the Navy, I went back to school and got my degree.) After winning a competition, our debate team was treated to dinner. What an experience it turned out to be. It was my "grown-up" fix. I always looked forward to hangin' out on Wednesday nights. Everyone that I took raved about the place! The prime rib was always excellent as well as he filet mignon, and the staff dynomite. Hope to be there for Lincoln's 150th year celebration. Under New Ownership
DESCRIPTION: I have been to the Red Rose for many months and the last two times saw new faces, been treated differently and had to wait 45 minutes for a rare prime rib. I noticed the last time that at 6 P.M. There were very few diners. Bad sign! I think the service could be better if the chef would hustle a little. The poor service was NOT the waitress. The pounding jazz, raucous music, was annoying and did not fit in with the old country charm of the place. I was so annoyed with everything that I will not return. Sad ending to a great restaurant.

The bloom has fallen off the Rose!
DESCRIPTION: We (I, my husband and two friends) stopped at the Red Rose Inn for dinner around 7 pm on Thursday 30 December 2004. We have often been to the Inn for Sunday Brunch and have always been pleased with the food and service. After waiting in line to get into Long Wood Gardens, being on out feet for 2 hours and stopping at one other restaurant that was too full to accommodate us we headed for home. On the way we decided to stop at the Red Rose Inn. We waited for a maiter de to show up, he finally arrived on the scene only to tell us that we could not be seated for 10 minutes. I would have understood if the tables were full but the restaurant was empty and the last thing we wanted to do was stand and we were not interested in consuming alcohol in the bar which seemed to be the materdee s priority. The materdee appeared unable to handle a simple situation of seating 4 people, providing them with something to drink (water or coffee) since apparently they were short of waitresses. We left very disgusted. We visited a restaurant in Delaware that was most accommodating. Needless to say we will not be back! It appears that the bloom has fallen off the Rose!

dinner for 7 on 12-10-03
DESCRIPTION: Mr. Abbott had a party of 7 on 12-10-03 with 6:30 reservations. We arrived 15 mins. late due to weather conditions, however we called and notified them. The food was excellent which has always been since the 8 years we have been loyal patrons since they were located at the Penn Werner Hotel. We arrived at approximately 6:45 pm in our limosine which we park directly out front also due to the weather conditions. We were seated having our cocktails, while my 6 yr. old newphew was having an iced tea, which he was quite content with. During the course of our delicious meal, my nephew played with his toys that he brought with him. While he was playing he harmlessly decorated the reproduction "man in the barrel" which he always looks forward to seeing when we dine there. We were enjoying our meals and having a nice time when one of the older waitress approched our table and rudely removed all the trinkets from the "man in the barrel" which I and my whole party were appalled. I felt this was a tedious act, so I instructed my nephew to let everything in place. Which now was fine with management. As we were nearing the end of our meal, I ordered ice cream pie and instucted my nephew to remove the trinkets from the "man in the barrell" during which this time I was questioned by management regarding my limo parked directly out front due to weather conditions which I normally park in the parkin lot. Therefore,I was told I cannot park out front because it is a handicapped space. I questioned where the sign was and she hostily replied there will be one there "by next week" and made a remark that the vehicle will be towed. I sincerely hope they do post it with signs for their handicapped customers. I tried to kindly express my feelings on this matter, I was rudely shoved out the door and told "it was getting cold in here!" Afterwards, I proceeded to return my party of 6 home. I still highly recommend the cuisine, but do not , and I highly stress, do not play with the "man in the barrell" and to look for handicapped signs out front! I am very appalled and will not be dining there anymore after 8 yrs. of their delicious cuisine.
