Who Needs the North End
DESCRIPTION: My husband and I recently visited this restaurant, quite by accident. We have never been so pleasantly surprised. The food was of better quality than the North End! This is a small restaurant, but the intimacy of the dining room enhanced the experience. Our waitress told us she had worked at Agresti's for over 7 years, and she was extremely knowledgeable. The wine list was great, and the owner of the restaurant helped us select an Italian red to go with our meal. From beginning to end, the meal was outstanding. Westfordians are lucky, they don't have to battle Boston traffic to get a better than Boston meal.

Tasty Suburban Option
DESCRIPTION: Zagat's rates Lotus Blossom one of the top 5 Chinese restaurants in the Boston area, and the only one outside of Chinatown. The food is a tasty, largely Cantonese menu. We had the General Gao's chicken, which was very good, and the vegetarian Moo Shi, which was also very good. The waiter rolled up the Moo Shi pancakes for us at the table, which was a good-- if unnecessary-- bit of service. The converted house hints little of the slightly over-wrought modern decor inside.

Good Food and Management
DESCRIPTION: I have been a loyal fan of the Lotus Blossom for many years now and have found that the restaurant garners a loyal crowd around the area. The management is always friendly and lively and they treat you with good service and great food. I like the way the place is set up in a colonial type house, you would never have known it was a restaurant. Good food and well worth the price, be sure to come visit. It is high and above the rest of its competition.

Owner was Disrespectful to the Clientele
DESCRIPTION: My parents recently went to the Kernwood, a restaurant where they often eat. They ordered the early bird special that night, which stated the meal included coffee or tea. My parents ordered an ice tea which they were later charged for. When they asked why, they were told that the tea that was included with the meal was hot tea not ice tea. Then the owner proceeded to imply that they were being cheap because they had ordered the early bird special... His tone and manner were quite rude. Why advertise a special dinner deal when you resent giving it? And more importantly, people should not eat at this restaurant whose owner is disrespectful to his customers.

No Value Here...Food, Service, Atmosphere & Value all Lacking!
DESCRIPTION: After attending a gathering at the Kernwood in Lynnfield recently, I can't help but wonder why some people still tout its reputation. It must be the old-timers who remember its heydey that cannot tear themselves away from their memories. The food is WAY OVERPRICED. The quality and quantity of the food is worse than at some fast food restaurants. The staff is discourteous and uncaring...and the dining room is crowded and poorly laid out with barely enough room to raise your arms. The restrooms were dirty and smelled bad The Jumbo Shrimp consisted of 3 SMALL shrimp with some Ritz crackers spread over them...It was the toughest shrimp I have ever attempted to eat, and it tasted like Lynn Beach smells at low tide. The kids hamburgers were burned like charcoal and served in a stale bun...The steak was red raw even when ordered well done! The waitress, when informed that some of the meals came with dessert (after a good 45 minutes had gone by since everyone was done eating) said "Hold on a second...I'll be back..." and returned about 15 minutes later. The place was not very crowded and there was no need for her hostility.

DESCRIPTION: I've been to the Kernwood once or twice and to me it's just another restaurant. The food is good, atmosphere is nice, who the hell are we snobs to say any more? However, a certain waiter Mr. Dagnese, is one of the greatest humans to ever walk the earth. He was my freshman year history teacher and was never lacking in interesting life stories, which are a must for any educator of adolescents. Ask for this man when you go there, and feel free to ask him the capital of any country in the world. He knows them all. It doesn't get much cooler than that!

Very enjoyable
DESCRIPTION: We have gone to the Kernwood for many years and have always been treated very nicely. Even when we didn't call ahead for reservations we were seated in a timely manner. The food has always been good, the drinks were excellent, and we find the menu offers something for everyone. We have had the early bird dinners and they are a good value. I usually find days that aren't so good for me either and perhaps a smile to those waiters might make them smile back at you. Lighten up! If you want the atmosphere of the Ritz, go there.

I loved it!

Kernwood - Nice Place
DESCRIPTION: If you don't go at rush hour meal times, i.e. 5p.m., the Kernwood is a very nice place for an evening meal. It is a nice warm place to hava a meal with a glass of wine by the fire. Very relaxing. I am 26 and I am saying that so I am not one of those old fogies as mentioned in the previous posts. While pricey, the food is lovely and actually fills my bottomless pit of an English fiance. You pay for quality. He orders a steak and it looks as if someone has brought you the cow :D They have massive, juicy, succulent steaks! The sides are equally as good. I always end up getting a doggie bag. The popovers (Yorkshire Pudding) are lovely. Staff has always been VERY nice and prompt with service.

We Love It for Dinner or a Function
DESCRIPTION: My family and I dine at the Kernwood quite often. I am also in my 20's and not an old fogey. We love the early bird specials when we are looking for excellent food at a more reasonable price; however, we also enjoy dinner there later in the evening. We have also had several family functions there and have been very pleased. Bottom line: Excellent, good food, very nice atmosphere, good service (sometimes great, sometimes not terrific...like any other restaurant). Too bad the restaurant is going out of business this year :( We will miss it!!

No Longer Traditional
DESCRIPTION: It took me a year or two to go to Cedar Street Restaurant after it replaced the much-loved Le Bearn, a traditional French restaurant which owed more to Escoffier than Alice Waters. That was a year or 2 of my loss. Cedar Street serves the very best of fusion. Your choices include spring rolls and risottos, and sauces flavored with chipotles. The unique menu gives everyone in the family a choice. (And my family includes a vegan, a lacto-ovo vegetarian who eats some seafood and a big-time steak-loving carnivore.) The menu is divided by ingredients rather than course, the first being vegetarian, the second page seafood and the third meat and poultry. The menu changes frequently to accommodate the freshest of seasonal vegetables. Although the restaurant can be a little loud when full, the service is prompt and unintrusive and the food wonderfully prepared. I've never had an entree or appetizer I didn't enjoy although the side vegetables are sometimes unimaginative. The desserts are prepared by their own pastry chef and are not to be missed. Order your dessert with your meal if you want their not-to-be-missed molten chocolate cake, or one of their fruit cobblers or crisps. All in all Cedar Street provides satisfying and eclectic food, and is well-worth the trip to Sturbridge.

Incredible Food, Very Casual Atmosphere
DESCRIPTION: This is a little storefront take-out Chinese restaurant situated between Union and Davis Squares. The atmosphere is almost lacking, but it makes up for its shortcomings in the food. A word of suggestion: the take out menu leaves out a lot of the really good dishes. Ask to see the regular menu and go directly to the back of the book (the yellow section) for the most incredible dishes. Dim Sum is also served on Sundays.

Franklin's Best Kept Secret
DESCRIPTION: The menu tempts you with seafood, steak, veal, chicken or pasta. Each dish is better than the next. A Secret That Should Be Kept
DESCRIPTION: The restaurant is doing surprisingly well in spite of a lackluster menu, marginal service at best, and antics that can only be described as disgusting. Servers cursing and throwing things at one another, all in ear and sight shot of the customers. I can't remember ever seeing a display so immature. Dining should be drama-free for the customer and dinner a delight. We tried Florentina 5 separate occasions and did not find this to be even an average dining experience.

Absolutely the Best
DESCRIPTION: This is one of the best Italian restaurant I have been to in the Franklin Area. Food is fantastic no matter what your taste. The menu has so many things to choose from and only the anti Italian food lovers would have a problem. I love the pasta dishes and the appetizers are fantastic. If you are on the Atkins diet, ask for the Calamari appetizer sauteed with no batter. Tender as can be and delicious.

Italian Food Lovers Won't Settle
DESCRIPTION: I frequent restaurants in the North End of Boston and when I ventured into Florentina I was amazed that they call the place Italian. The dishes are loosely Italian, but more Americanized than anything. They are so-so at best. The service is non-professional. Some are better than others but you can't take a person off the street in the morning, give them an apron and expect them to know the etiquette and customs. The prices are way too high for a 1 star joint.

Great Food and Atmosphere, Questionable Attitude
DESCRIPTION: Our family had a wonderful time at Point Breeze, with very good food and a great atmosphere, all at competitive prices. But when we presented our Entertainment Card entitling us to one free dish (max. $15), they subtracted $4 from our bill, the price of a child's meal. Rather than making good on coupon, the owner complained at length about the Entertainment Book. It was sad, we had a good time. But rather than honoring the coupon (which should have saved us $10.95, the least expensive of 4 adult dishes we ordered), the owner pocketed the $6.95 and sent us home with a bad taste. And we were all ready to tell our friends what a nice little restaurant we had found! But such a gesture reduces trust, and will send us elsewhere in the future. It's a shame.

Wedding Reception
DESCRIPTION: We had my daughter's nighttime reception there. The day before, they changed the time on us, but didn't add it on to the end of the reception. The night of it, we had to track down waitresses to serve the meal and cut the cake. We could not get water refills, they rushed us out (they were literally all gone before we had left the parking lot), they were very rude to us, they kept our extra cake (over 18 pieces) that we had requested and they kept our extra meals (10 of them). They tried to throw about one of the bouquets and took one guest's meal away before he could finish it because they were clearing the tables. I could go on and on. We have talked to the owner once and he said he would look into it and get back to us, but he has never called back and whenever we call him, he's not available. The food was okay, but nothing great. We were an inconvenience to them.

Nothing Like Cancelling at the Last Moment
DESCRIPTION: Had a wedding booked for well over a year; however, we were never notified or called regarding closing and remodeling until we did the calling. I was told all along that the place would be ready; however, at the last minute we were told that we couldn't have it there. Very poor business dealings, they should have never kept the booking. It would have been a lot easier to find another location for the wedding months in advance rather than a week.

New Owners - Excellent
DESCRIPTION: The inside of the restaurant has been totally redone. Elegant, but not pretentious, dress clothes to casual, kids or not, we had a wonderful dinner. The food was excellent. I have not had a filet that good in a long time. The portions are just right, and they pay attention to detail! Very impressive. The waitstaff is youthful, but they are gaining experience. The bar area, should I say lounge, is the best I've ever seen. Need to check out the stained glass in the ceiling over the bar, absolutely breathtaking.

Excellent - Open After Remodel
DESCRIPTION: If you haven't been to Point Breeze in a while, it is definately time to return. They have completely remodeled the entire place and expanded the menu. The new bar features a raw bar and the new menu is full of seafood. I had the surf/turf which included a petite filet and grilled shrimp. The service was also wonderful and attentive. A prior owner with a new partner is now running Point Breeze. I was very pleased. I had my wedding there last year and it was wonderful but I was amazed at the transformation. Take a look for yourself.

Lunch on the Lake
DESCRIPTION: I have several friends in Western MA who I meet for lunch or diner. We're always looking for a nice place that's about halfway between us. I bumped into this place while looking on the web for a place for lunch and I'm glad we decided to try it. The ambiance was outstanding...beautiful view of the lake from huge windows surrounding the entire dining room. The menu selection was exceptional, everything from soup, salad, wraps to full meals. Salad dressings were unique (in a good way). I enjoyed the apple vinaigrette. It's listed as a seafood place, but they had beef, chichen, turkey and pasta. The service was great. Ginny was our server. I've already recommended it to several friends and I'm planning a group "get-together" in about a week or so. I'd go back in a heartbeat for lunch or dinner.

Poor Service and Lousy Ambiance
DESCRIPTION: A dreary Saturday night with a 6:30 reservation found us parking in a soaked field and navigating a gauntlet of 20-something boys smoking cigarettes and drinking bottled beer in the entranceway to be seated in a banquet like room complete with metal and plastic banquet chairs. The room was cavernous leaving our party of six shouting at one another across the table to be heard. The poor preprandial experience was exasberated by the ghost like service provided by the waitress. The restaurant has an extensive menu (> 40 entrees), but apparently no specials and no wine list. The meals were served 1.5 hours after we were seated. The food was acceptable. Perfect restaurant for Webster, MA. Crappy service, lousy ambiance and average food.

Good but Lacking
DESCRIPTION: The food has been fabulous, but you need to overlook some organizational snafus. Was planning on seeing a show - they changed the time by an hour-and-a-half due to band demands, but never called me, despite requiring a phone number when they took my reservation. Found out after I had been at the table for over an hour and was wondering why there was no set-up going on, so I asked. Wait staff has been iffy each time we have gone - one thing always wrong... However, great food and lovely views win out over new owners/management's growing pains.

DESCRIPTION: I found Pho Pasteur by accident in Needham while I was visiting my friends. It reminded me much of the pho back home in California and Vietnam. The food was so excellent, almost undescribable. Great food at affordable prices. The food has been quite satisfactory; spicy hot pot, chicken lemongarass and vietnamese salad are my favorites Fresh springrolls are so fresh and so yummy. I get healthy portions of healthy food. The wait staff so nice. They are courteous and capable and were really nice. A friend and I were waiting for a whole hour for a third to show; the restaurant was about to close and the wait staff was still good. Wow. That is what I call good service and a nice wait staff.

Japanese Chin Mascot
DESCRIPTION: On July 16 had dinner at Osaka in Northampton, MA, and would rate my experience--food and ambience plus service with five stars!***** What was especially charming was that the restaurant seems to have a mascot, a Japanese Chin dog named Cato. Reminds me of The Bulldog Restaurant/Club in Amsterdam, Holland. Lovely full coated little black and white dog. Long Lines but Worth the Wait
DESCRIPTION: Above average meals at reasonable prices. Call when you leave the house to get on waiting list, cuts time at restaurant substantially. Friendly and lots of fun.

Busy but Good
DESCRIPTION: We often come to the restaurant for dinner with the family. I find that the service is fast and kid friendly. It is really helpful to call ahead to avoid waiting up to 45 min. or more, especially on weekends.

Has fallen on hard times
DESCRIPTION: Del Raye needs to get serious about maintaining quality. Martinis are served lukewarm. Other cocktails are served just as indifferently. The bartenders seem not to know how to mix basic libations and the service staff is unaccountably uneven. Imagine ordering a bottle of champagne without the server knowing enough to allow someone time to taste it before pouring everyone else a glass. It isn't the end of the world but it is a serious breach in service and connotes a breach in the understanding of service and ultimately it's service that rightfully keeps patrons interested in going back to a particular restaurant. The Caesar salad was dry. The rolls were served at "whatever times" and there is little to no attention paid to the finer details. Del Raye is in a very competitive market and it has failed to maintain its reputation as a first class restaurant. I have been a patron for more than eight years and I am very disappointed in its overall decline. Since most organizations function on a top down basis, it is incumbent upon management to oversee and maintain quality if it wishes to maintain its discerning clientele.

Italy Brought to You in Westboro
DESCRIPTION: Where to begin? The garlic bread is a delicious start to the dining experience. The atmosphere is romantic, yet family friendly. The homemade salad dressings are great. The food tastes like you are dining in the North End or a bistro in Italy. The portions are huge. Bring your appetite. Oh and the best part is you can even bring your own beer or wine. A real cost saver, the waiters and waitresses come over with wine glasses and uncork the bottle and it's yours to enjoy. Great overall experience. A dining must.
